Notable Black contributions to Pharmaceuticals (to name a few).

  1. The Ancient Egyptian Imhotep, who lived around 3000 BCE, is the first physician who is known by name in history. The name means "the one who comes in peace." He is considered by many to be the world"s first scientist, and is credited with coining the phrase "Eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow we shall die." Imhotep is also the world"s first identified architect and he served under King Zoser of the Third Dynasty in Egypt. He designed and built Egypt"s first pyramid at Saqqara (also, Sakkara). He was one of the most accomplished human beings on record.   2. The ambitious Barthwell opened his first pharmacy at the height of the Great Depression in 1933 and provided much-needed work for many Black Detroit residents ­­- a long-term focus of his socially conscious career. He grew his footprint in the city, establishing 10 pharmacies with soda fountains, three ice-cream parlors and two patent medicine stores.   3. Dr. Wayne, CEO of Wayne Pharmaceuticals, Inc, is dedicated to closing the health disparity gap in the Black community.
